Which pointing sources to use ? Guidelines for the observer.

IRAM 30m telescope

We recommend to use XEphem to view the sky coverage of pointing sources, using the catalogs described below. Note that XEphem also allows to plot the current telescope position, to find nearby sources.

Heterodyne

  • Flux monitoring program (access only IRAM internal)
These web pages explain the ongoing flux monitoring program with EMIR and helps the observer to select bright and nearby pointing sources:

    • pointingIRAM30m.edb for XEphem. The size of the markers reflect their most recently observed fluxes.

    • The above web page also shows plots of sources and their flux changes in time
  • The heterodyne pool data base (password protected) lists pointing sources and the fluxes of more than 1Jy using the MAMBO2 data from its data base.

1mm Bolometer

  • BoloPoint.edb for XEphem is a catalog of MAMBO pointing sources. The flux coded into the source names and the fluxes are usually updated at the end of each semester. At present, the size of the marker does not reflect the flux.

  • The MAMBO pool data base (password protected) lists pointing source fluxes that have been observed with MAMBO2, and plots their time evolution between 2001 and 2011. See e.g. mambo-w3oh.png

2 mm Bolometer

  • gismo_calibrators.edb for XEphem is a catalog of secondary flux calibrators.

IRAM Plateau de Bure

  • A printout of the PdB calibrator list is available at the30m: phase-pdb.sou
